Failing Again

I was in round three of four on an interview process with a big tech giant in all aspects of our lives. It was for a role that didn’t quite align with my experience. I am overqualified in some areas and underqualified in others. Passionate about part of the role and wanted to run from another part. Isn’t that always the case? I got the “thanks but no thanks” email late last week. Looking back on the interview, I can pinpoint the line of questioning that I most likely erred on.

The questions focused on metrics, which I didn’t quite hit the right balance on. I now have a great answer to the line of questioning. Something I will use going forward. Another failure in the long process of finding the next spot to land.

Staying confident in a process full of rejection is a humbling experience. I have never been much of a mantra person, but I find myself repeating Colin’s lines daily.

Past project on failure.

A student project done by Brian Twigg and myself at Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design. This piece documents our progression through RMCAD's Stop Motion Animation course, beginning with our very first clay figure tests and culminating with completing a final project that became much bigger than we had ever intended. The underlying message: "Ever Tried? Ever Failed? No Matter. Try Again. Fail Again. Fail Better." – Samuel Beckett
